Home visits / Energy Checks and referrals to
Grant Schemes
The
ENLEN team will be more than happy to visit your home to see if we
can help you save energy. We can undertake a basic home energy check, as
well as checking things like your central heating controls, looking
over your bills and investigating options for insulating your
property.
After the home visit is complete we will send you a home
energy report, detailing ways your might be able to cut your
consumption. We will also undertake research into any specific
issues of questions you have and arrange to come back and see you
with the results later on.
If
it becomes clear you are in need of insulation work in your home,
ENLEN will help you to find the most appropriate grant scheme to
financially support you in making improvements.
ENLEN can directly refer you to a reputable installer for a free survey and quotation, and your local Energy Champion can even be on hand to be at your property while the survey takes place if you are worried about having workmen in your home.
Infra red surveys
We have recently undertaken infra red surveys of 2400 houses in the East Neuk of Fife. The majority of these were in the coastal villages, although we also surveyed the whole of Largoward. If you were one of the houses surveyed you should have received a letter in January informing you of the process.
These surveys are just like having a photograph taken of your home,
except they show heat being lost from the house. This is a great way
of spotting potential problems and seeing where your heat is going.
We are currently hard at work compiling reports for all these houses, and will be knocking on doors to show the photos to you and to discuss potential improvements you could make to reduce heat loss. We anticipate it will take us about 6 months to get these reports back to every house, so if you are waiting for yours please do be patient!
Free energy saving gadgets and support
We have a range of 'gadgets' and support available to help you on your energy saving journey.
Energy
monitors can be easily installed and tell you in real time how much
electricity you are using and how much it is costing you. These are
available free to householders in the ENLEN area, and we would be
pleased to come out and show you how to use them.
Intelligent plugs can help you to stop leaving things on standby, and can be yours for free if you let us know you would like one. We also have energy saving lightbulbs to give away, and can help you source other energy saving products at the best price.
In addition to this we can support your longer term efforts to save energy by enrolling you in a behaviour change programme, getting you signed up to 'the Carbon Diet' online, or by helping you keep an energy diary to see where your times of high consumption are.
Support for community groups
Our project has a strong community focus, and we are keen to get out and meet as many community groups as possible! If you think your group or club would like to have an energy saving talk, see some eco- gadgets, learn about insulation and grants or get advice on renewable energy we would be happy to help.
We are also keen to help communities apply for funding to improve the energy efficiency of their community buildings. So if you know of a church hall or community centre which could benefit from a new heating system or some insulation, please do get in touch and we will see what can be done.
All of these services are completely free and for the benefit of the East Neuk communities.
